Rastapus’ Art Opus

Sheryl Lazenby

For the Common Good | 2018 installation

Sheryl Lazenby is a professional chalk artist and owner of Smart Dog Design. She’s been on our radar since we first met her in 2017. Her Rastapus concept sketch was a wildly popular favorite for our 2017 major art installation. Although Rasta never made it onto the Camp Chase Trail mural wall, we knew we had to have him in our lives some day.

Jones Lumber & Millwork approached us in the spring of 2018. They’ve been in business for almost 100 years, and love seeing all the new art on the Hilltop. They were all-in when we suggested a community art panel.

Sheryl’s intent was not to fully recreate the installed art in the community, but instead to have the flavor of the art that has been installed. She wanted to make this very colorful – and very big - red Rastapus pull everything together in style.
