Peace Train

Justin Withrow

For The Common Good | 2019 installation | 454 S. Wheatland Avenue

Justin Withrow’s 2019 Peace Train is bold, colorful, fun, and speaks loudly of what we so desperately need on the Hilltop: PEACE. Justin is a graffiti artist whose style inspired us to open our commission process beyond “traditional” mural art.

The mural is painted on a 110′ west-facing wall and features a peace sign comprised of the words “peace, love, live, create, health”; all important elements in our everyday life. Our 2019 limited edition festival t-shirts included this design, along with an additional word, “music”.

As with all of the murals we’ve commissioned, don’t forget to really look at all the details. It’s located at 2322 Sullivant Ave. (corner of Sullivant and Wheatland).

Justin is the owner of Lookout Supply, a Hilltop shop that does a little bit of everything – art supply, apparel, and creative goods store; community gathering place; and event space featuring outdoor and indoor galleries. It’s located at 3440 W. Broad Street, and has quickly become a hub of creativity and collaboration for art and artists, and a bright spot on the Hilltop.

Justin also painted our art car, The Grape Escape.

A major thank you goes to Bible Way Church for giving us the opportunity to make their otherwise drab wall POP with color! We’re also grateful for Bates & Sons for doing an incredible job at a fair price in power washing the wall and clear coating it after it was painted.
